Equine Massage Workshops

"Basic Bodywork for Horse Lovers" b>
Get an introduction to equine massage, see Marleigh demonstrate and explain beginning equine massage, gentle stretching and reflexing, followed by hands on practice. You get a very brief and basic introduction to muscular anatomy and function, and skeletal landmarks. There is discussion about, and practice of, supportive exercises to help your horse become or remain supple. Increase the bond between you and your horse and begin helping your horse.

Why do I teach these classes?
My goal is to help you become a better horse owner or caretaker by becoming more intimately aware of the structure and feel of the horse body. These workshops will provide you with some basic skills and tools for evaluating and physically attending to your horse. This will aid in providing comfort for your horse at any level of exertion from total rest to high demand uses. In becoming more familiar with the structure and feel of your horse, you will also be more quickly aware of inbalances or discomfort for which you should seek veterinary assistance.

Participation is limited to EIGHT students in each session. Auditors are accepted with advance reservations and limited to one per participant. Returning students may participate in repeat classes for the auditor fee.

About the Instructor

Marleigh has been helping horses and their owners and caretakers nearly all of her life. Beginning in the horse show arena at age 9, Marleigh went on to raise, train, and show horses for about 30 years. Her show career encompassed many types of horses and disciplines. She showed Arabians, Half-Arabians, Morgans, Saddlebreds, Quarter Horses, and Open Jumpers.
Beginning in the mid 1980's she began working with Veterinarians, Osteopathic Physicians, and Chiropractors, nursing and rehabilitating injured horses. In 1992 she began offering her massage and bodywork services to the horse loving public. Working closely with Veterinarians, by 1994 her barn was dedicated to horse rehabilitation and teaching equine bodywork. Marleigh sold her barn in 1997, and stopped teaching for medical reasons. She continued to pursue further education, practice equine bodywork, and teach one day workshops in Arizona. In 2005, Marleigh returned to teaching with her new class "Basic Bodywork for Horse Lovers" and "Getting Started with Equine Massage" which are classes designed for horse owners and lovers. Classes are held in Southern AZ, and other locations to be announced.

Check out the article in the May/June 2006 issue of "The Trail Rider" titled "Aches and Pains" by Jule Drown. Her article discusses bodywork as part of a collaborative approach to rehabilitation. Included is an editorial piece on animal owners rights, subtitle "One Owner's Viewpoint".

Marleigh is a member of International Association of Animal Massage and Bodywork. Take a moment to visit IAAMB and look at the October 2006 newsletter. The IAAMB is a progresive and innovative organization. I encourage all practitioners as well as anyone interested in animal bodywork modalities to join IAAMB. Visit their site at IAAMB
